Thoughts from the Trail 1
- On a phone call to recruit volunteers: "I'm totally against Trump, I'm going to vote for Hillary, but I work for the Republican Party so I can't volunteer or I'll lose my job"
- Registering voters: "I don't get no freedom. I'm a black man."
- The internal divisions in the office over trigger warnings and spaces are interesting.
- There is a strange vitriol from certain supporters of the other candidate that reaches to a very personal level. Policy disagreements are less of a thing. It may the closest I come to approximating the feeling of racism
- The office dynamic is delicate. Smart people, many headstrong. An interesting test of one of my pet theories: that intelligence tends toward self destruction
- Communities are cut up in turfs that sometimes don't align with neighborhood alignments to account for easier reporting from the national level. I am watching the tendencies that have wreaked havoc on colonial nations, played out by national campaigns in local communities
